Rotary Unions®

A Rotating Union is a precision mechanical
device used to convey fluid from a
stationary source into rotating machinery. A
typical rotating union features:
-
Deep groove ball bearings to support the
rotating component (attached to the
machinery) against the stationary
component (attached to the stationary
supply source)
-
End face balanced mechanical seal to
seal the media passing through
The bearing type, design, material and
construction vary with application.
Likewise, the seal also varies depending
upon fluid properties & operating conditions
of the application.
Rotating Unions are used in certain
manufacturing processes to cool, heat or
transfer fluid (pneumatic or hydraulic)
power.

Rotating Union applications include Air
Clutches, Gear Boxes, Machine Tool Spindles,
Textile Equipment, Rubber & Plastic
Manufacturing Machinery, Steel Continuous
Casting Machines and Paper Machine Calender
stacks. In 1989 Deublin product line was
expanded to include Steam Joints and Siphon
Systems for Paper Machine Dryer Cans.

Duff-Norton Rotary Union®rotating
joints are designed to provide a rotating
seal between a stationary fluid supply and a
revolving roll or drum. These joints are
available in a wide range of sizes, from 1/8
to six inch nominal pipe sizes, in single
and dual flow designs. In most styles,
optically flat seal faces and ball bearings
reduce torque and friction drag. The quality
construction and broad performance
characteristics of Duff-Norton joints make
them ideal for transmitting liquids and
non-toxic industrial gases to and from a
wide range of rotating machinery in most
industrial applications: dryer drums,
extruders, calendars, laminators, press
rolls, embossers and similar applications.
Years of service in tough field applications
prove these joints give long service, have
fewer production down periods and require
less maintenance than other types of sealing
mechanisms. Custom-engineered models are
available by special order. Please consult
your local Duff-Norton Rotary
Union®distributor, your local Duff-Norton
district sales manager or the factory for
further information.

There are three basic
types of Rotary Unions®:
|
P: Plain |
S: Stationary Siphon |
RS: Rotating Siphon |
 |
|
 |
|
Single Flow |
Dual Flow |
Dual Flow |
There are two mounting methods for Rotary
Unions®: shaft mounted, which may utilize
either a threaded or quick release
connection, and flange mounted in which the
housing is mounted directly to the drum and
rotates while the shaft remains stationary.
Applications:
-
Textiles
-
Tank Farms
-
Machining Centers
-
Clutches and Brakes
-
Automobile manufacturing
-
Chemical
-
Printing and Converting
-
Paper
-
Rubber and Plastics
-
Food and Pharmaceuticals
-
and Many More!

Float-A-ShaftTM Right Angle Gear
Drive
|
Float-A-Shaft is a
universal right angle gearbox coupling. It
consists of two 45° helical gears that mesh
at right angles. Designed to turn power
around any corner, Float-A-Shaft can be
operated in either direction and can slide
axially along the drive or driven shaft. A
light weight aluminum housing encloses the
gears (serving as a structure support and a
lubricant reservoir which are keyed directly
to the shafts. Field-proven for over 35
years, the Float-A-Shaft's unique floating
design maintains perfect alignment and
eliminates the use of dangerous chain
sprocket drives. Float-A-Shafts are
available in either a low torque journal
bearing or a high torque sealed roller
bearing series. Rated for a maximum of 500
RPM. Metric models are available.
